Minutes after the arrival of special representative of government of India Dineshwar Sharma in Kashmir, activists of Muslim Khawateen-e- Markaz Jammu and Kashmir, affiliated with Syed Ali Shah Geelani –led Hurriyat conference, today held a protest demonstration here saying tripartite talks or implementation of United Nations resolution were the only way to solve Kashmir problem. Sharma, who was appointed as a special representative by the Centre on October 24, arrived here on his maiden visit to explore possibility of meeting political leaders including separatists, majority of whom have already made known their decision not to meet him. Clad in burqas with their faces covered with scraps, the activists led by chairman of the outfit Yasmeen Raja, raised slogans against the visit of Sharma terming his mission Kashmir as a “futile exercise. “He (interlocutor) has come to rub salt on our wounds. He has said he will be coming here to restore peace but peace will elude Jammu and Kashmir till the Kashmir problem is solved”, Raja said. Raising pro- freedom slogans, they said the Centre has many times in the past appointed its point men to solve Kashmir issue but to no avail. “More than 100 times talks were held for solving Kashmir issue but nothing concrete took place. It is futile exercise to talk to the current representative of the government asnothing will come out of the talks”, Raja said. Demanding tripartite talks among India, Pakistan and joint leadership of Kashmir, she said “the only way to solve the Kashmir issue is to hold tripartite talks or implement UN resolutions”. “Bilateral talks between India and Pakistan, or India and Kashmiri leaders have proved futile in the past and the outcome of the fresh negotiations on similar lines will meet the same fate”, she said while her colleagues raised the banner being carried by them at press enclave to a prominent position which read” no to bilateralism only tripartite talks or UN resolutions is the way to solve the lingering Kashmir issue”.
